✍️ When Change Is Calling, But You’re Not Ready Yet


Happy Monday Reader,

Moving from thinking about change to taking action can feel overwhelming. Often, instead of making the changes we want, we stay stuck in contemplation. This week, we’re going to shift you from reflection into action.

Start with this prompt:

What changes have I been pondering that it is now time to make?

Begin by creating a list of everything you’ve been thinking about changing—without judging or committing to anything yet. Include the big and small. Everything from joining a gym to buying a new house.

Then pick one that feels most pressing, most exciting, or simply the easiest place to begin.

With this change, explore the following questions:

  • Why haven’t I already made the change?
  • Am I resisting the entire change or just parts of it?
    • Why am I resisting this?
  • If I make this change, how would it change my life? Does this scare me? If so, how?

Reviewing your answers to the above series, ask yourself:

Which one of these feels like the biggest block? (Keep in mind, blocks aren’t something you are going to force yourself to push through right now but instead use it to uncover valuable information that you can use to improve your life.)

Then ask yourself:

How can I overcome this block?

Begin with brainstorming a list of ways to handle the block. Get as many ideas on paper as possible. After the list is done, begin to sort through it and determine which ones make the most sense to you.

Here are some bonus prompts that you can use if nothing is coming through the above process.

  • Is there a pattern in my desired changes? Do they have a theme?
    • If so, can I make one change that will address the theme?
  • Visualize yourself taking action then ask:
    • What feelings came up?
    • Did other problems come up that I didn’t think about before?
    • What else did I experience?
  • What are the benefits of doing this? Do they outweigh the risk?

Finally, if you feel ready, create a plan for how you want to move forward — or simply identify one small next step you can take.

You may find that you’re still not ready to take action — and that’s okay. Keep circling back to these questions as new insights become available. You may also realize you simply don’t want what you have been thinking about. If that is the case, give yourself permission to release the idea.
